My name is Collin Rachner, and I come from a not so small, but pretty dismal town called Martinsville in southwestern Virginia. I’ve lived most of my life thus far surrounded by a very large, very close and very loving extended family which I guess has essentially forged who I am today and what my values are. In school I did a lot of everything; I was on multiple sports teams, I was a honor student, and I had major parts in all of the school plays and musicals. Like a good deal of high school over-achievers, I experienced a bit of shock when I arrived at college and the difficulty level was moved from easy to hard. Thus, I spent the first few semesters struggling to find my place academically and socially, forcing me into a bit of a recluse, save for a handful of close friends and my brother who also attends Tech. Fortunately, after much despair, I think I’ve finally found a place; getting back into the old rhythms of athletics, school work, and theater, making me feel like a normal person again.
